A Sneak Peek at My HS Prep Hockey Team’s Training

August 20, 2010 by Dennis Chighisola

Members can expect that I’ll slowly but surely explain each of the different drills you’ll see highlighted in this hockey video.  As I like to do, I’ll let you know WHY I’m having my kids do a given drill (or form of drilling), and I’ll usually also let you know the important teaching points that go along with each drill.  For the time being though, let me just entertain you a bit with a sneak peek at what we’ve been doing so far…

That’s a great piece there Coach. One of your best I think. You have used a lot of creativity to promote general athletic ability, develop skills and keep the players motivated to train. I may have to modify some of these for my little floorball players.

Aaah, awesome to hear from you, Craig, and thanks a bunch for those kind words. Actually, I can’t say enough about the young guys in that video. They work their butts off and continue to smile (as I kill them)!

Then, I know you know your stuff about this area, Craig. However, perhaps I should mention for everyone’s sake that some of the drills are appropriate for young ones, while others are not.

Mainly, I think the skill oriented drills would be awesome for little guys and gals. It’s the more stressful ones that I’d be careful about.

Thanks again, Craig. And don’t be a stranger. ;)

Great stuff, Coach. I never knew a jump-rope could be used so versatilely — or could play a big role in a players’ training.
